Overcoming The Roadblock of Fear
Most drivers have experienced the thrill of driving to a destination with no traffic, and having all the streetlights in their favor. Similarly, there are seasons in our lives when we are moving forward, and accomplishing our goals. Just as with driving, and usually without warning, we encounter roadblocks. A roadblock can be defined as an obstruction in a path or course, which prevents passage; or simply, any hindrance. I believe that there is one roadblock that everyone faces regardless of age, gender, race or occupation. This roadblock is FEAR.
2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV) states, "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." Fear is not of God. It is from the enemy. Romans 8:15 associates fear with bondage. 1 John 4:18 associates fear with torment. Proverbs 29:25 described fear as a snare. All of these are characteristics of Satan, not the Lord. Therefore, it is never acceptable to live with fear.
Here are three steps that I believe will help you to overcome fear:
1. Develop an accurate perception about your situation.
Your perception of a situation determines your thoughts about the situation. Mike Murdock says "Your present focus determines your present feelings." Take some time to think about the positive aspects.
2. Develop an accurate perception about yourself.
1 Corinthians 15:57 reminds us that we are victorious through our Lord Jesus. Most of the time we are more than capable of completing the task at hand. The beauty of being a Christian is that even when we fall short, Jesus does not.
3. Develop an accurate perception about God's love.
Jeremiah 31:3 confirms that God's love is everlasting. There is nothing to fear when God's love is present. His perfect love easily brings the power that casts out fear.
Don't allow fear to impede your progress in life. Cast it out and enjoy the open road.
