My Confession Of Weakness
I have a confession to make. I can be easily distracted. It’s one of my weaknesses. For example, I like to look at social media when I should be doing more pertinent things. Then I’ll say to myself, “Oh, I’ll get to it later.” So, the distraction turns into procrastination. The result? Slowed down progress. Another weakness is that I get overly concerned about other people’s problems and predicaments. Truth be told, this is something common with pastors. Yet, it serves as a distraction from my primary calling to pray a lot and to feed God’s people His Word.
At this moment of writing, I’m not distracted. But, to be perfectly honest, I’ll be distracted again. However, if I keep turning to the grace of God to overcome this weakness, I will eventually stop being so easily distracted and stay focused like I’m supposed to.
Long Time Coming
It took me a long time to admit that I have weaknesses (something I still don’t like to admit) and that I need the grace of God to overcome my flaws. The good news is, I have overcome some flaws and I’m in the process of overcoming other imperfections. Thanks be to God!
Jesus told the apostle Paul, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9). Did you catch that? Jesus’ strength is made perfect in weakness. In other words, His grace is making us strong. His grace is doing for us what we cannot do for ourselves. Isn’t that amazing?
It reminds me of Hebrews 2:16 which says, “For indeed He does not give aid to angels, but He does give aid to the seed of Abraham.” As our High Priest and Elder Brother, Jesus is giving us supernatural help to be victorious over our shortcomings. We don’t have to let our weaknesses control us and keep us from growing spiritually, moving in destiny or manifesting greatness.
My Current Goal
One of the things I’m turning to God’s grace for is weight loss. I realize that I can’t do it on my own. I’m stubborn, a procrastinator and ultimately lazy in this area of my life. Nevertheless, His grace is sufficient and His strength is made perfect in my weakness. I’m taking my eyes off my will power and looking to Jesus and His grace. Therefore, I can confidently declare that I will lose the excessive weight and reach my physical goals by the grace of God.
What are some things you’re looking to the grace of God to do for you? Whatever it is, say, “Father, give me the grace to overcome….” You’ll find that His grace is more than enough.
