Your Rock Solid Identity
I have good news for you. Your identity is ROCK SOLID! Do you know why? Because it’s based in Christ and He’s ROCK SOLID! Check out this Scripture:
"But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption" - 1 Corinthians 1:30
This verse brings your identity into focus. God the Father placed you in Christ Jesus and made Him your identity. Who Christ is, that's who you are.
1. He is your wisdom from God.
When God sent Jesus in human flesh, He was showing you His wisdom. He was showing the devil and his demons how smart He really is. Satan thought he had humanity in the palm of his hand, but God flipped the script on him through the death of Jesus. Satan didn’t know the death of Jesus was going to be his eternal demise and disgrace. This is why the apostle Paul said, “which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory” (1 Corinthians 2:8). Now that you’re in Christ Jesus, you are literally God’s eternal display of brilliance and cleverness. The joke is on Satan. Because of the Cross, he lost. Because of the Cross, he’s no longer the boss. Ha ha ha!
2. He is your righteousness.
Righteousness simply means “right standing with God.” Because Jesus is in right standing with God and always will be, you are in right standing with God and always will be. His state and status with the Father is your state and status with the Father. You better get excited about that. Think about this: you will NEVER be less than what Jesus is. Wow! Now that’s mind blowing if I must say so myself.
3. He is your sanctification.
In our society today, we don’t us the word sanctification much. But it is a kingdom word you should be familiar with. The word sanctification means “to make holy; set apart as sacred; consecrate.” This is who Jesus is and because you’re in Him, this is who you are. You are holy! You are set apart! You are consecrated to God! This is why God calls you to LIVE a holy life. This is your true identity. You are not a sinner, you are not a sex addict, you are not a dope head, you are not a lust puppy, you are not a cheater. You are holy and blameless in Christ Jesus. Once you see yourself this way, it won’t be hard to live a holy life.
4. He is your redemption.
The word redemption means “deliverance; rescue.” Jesus literally delivered you from the kingdom of darkness. He rescued you from the power and penalty of sin. Through His death on the Cross, He made amends to God for all of your faults, mistakes, deficiencies, and misdoings. In other words, Jesus paid the price for all the wrong you have ever done or ever will do. You are literally FREE from all guilt, shame and bondage. You may say, “But Pastor Maurice, I don’t feel free.” And I will say, “It doesn’t matter how you feel. What matters is what God has said and what Jesus has done.” The truth is, you are the delivered and rescued of the Lord. Rejoice!
