Winning Over the Disturbances

Winning Over the Disturbance

Let’s face it. Disturbances in life come and go. They can be caused by different reasons. Nevertheless, because of who you are in Christ you have power over them. Let me show you how.

The Disturbance at Sea
The disciples were caught in a storm or a disturbance at sea. It was dark, there was thundering and lightning. Worse of all, their boat was filling with water and had the potential of sinking. From the looks of it, they were going to die. The disciples were afraid and rightfully so. They thought they would lose their lives at sea.

Eventually, they went to Jesus who was at the bottom of the boat sleeping. They woke Him up and said, “…Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” (Mark 4:38). They didn’t ask for help, but went to Jesus anxious and in expectation of dying. Jesus got up and rebuked the storm and asked His disciples, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” (Mark 4:40).

The Expectation of Trust
The questions were asked by Jesus because He expected them to trust in Him even though the situation looked bleak. Jesus has the same expectation of you. Because He is with you everywhere you go and will help you to overcome in all things. I can say that because of this promise, “…For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you’” (Hebrews 13:5).

Since we have this assurance that He is with us, we can count on Him to deliver us from every form of trouble. Do not make the mistake the disciples made. Running to Jesus like they were going to lose the battle. Instead, come to Him boldly that you may obtain grace and help in times of need. Approach Him full of faith. When you do this, you’ll be filled with strength, power, wisdom and all the things you need to come out on top.

Speak Peace
Lastly, I want to add this, Jesus spoke peace. Storms and disturbances bring unrest which can ultimately effect your health. The best thing to do when you are stressed, anxious or feel unrest is to speak peace and be at peace. Reminding yourself that Jesus is with you and all is well.
