What are you expecting? Do you expect things to get better, or are you expecting things to remain the same?
The Bible gives us a powerful reason to live with expectation:
“My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him.” — Psalm 62:5 (NKJV)
David understood something important: he could wait on God and still expect something good. He knew his expectation came from God.
No matter how long you have been walking with the Lord, it is never too late to believe God for better. There is still more growth ahead. More wisdom. More opportunities. More ways for God to work in you and through you.
Job 14:7 (NKJV) says: “For there is hope for a tree, if it is cut down, that it will sprout again, and that its tender shoots will not cease.”
Think about that. Even after the tree has been cut down, there is still hope.
The Bible also says: “For a righteous man may fall seven times and rise again, but the wicked shall fall by calamity.” — Proverbs 24:16 (NKJV)
You may have fallen, experienced a setback, or watched something you hoped for come to an end. But that doesn’t mean everything is over.
A door may have closed, but God is not limited to one door. One plan may not have worked, but there may be another way forward.
David even had to remind himself to hope: “Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him for the help of His countenance.” — Psalm 42:5 (NKJV)
Sometimes you have to remind yourself by speaking:
- Have hope!
- Have hope because my current situation is not necessarily my final destination.
- Have hope because there are possibilities I haven’t seen yet.
- Have hope because a new day is coming.
- Have hope because God is still working in and through me.
Don’t allow disappointment or setbacks to determine your expectation. Let your expectation come from God.
There’s still more. Keep believing. Keep moving forward. Keep expecting.
