Celebrate Motherhood
One morning, I felt overwhelmed and thought to myself, “Am I even a good mother?,” as tears rolled down my face. I quickly wiped my eyes as I entered into the elevator of my apt building. There I encountered a woman whom I’ve never seen before. She looked at me and said, “I felt the Lord tell me to remind you that you are a good mother.” Wow! What an amazing and sudden confirmation! I love how, in a moment of weakness and self-doubt, God chose to celebrate my motherhood and remind me that I was doing a great job.
The truth is, God has chosen every mother, caregiver and woman to play an important role in this world. You are loved, valuable and needed. Just as the Lord reminded me that I was a good mother, I’m reminding you that you’re a good mother and you deserve to be celebrated!
Here’s why:
1. Mothers are prayer warriors.
A mother’s prayer is the best gift a child could ever receive. When mothers pray, it is an indication that she trusts God with her life and her children. As mothers, it’s easy to worry about the well-being and future of our children. However, we shift the burden from ourselves to God through prayer, knowing that our prayers are shaping their future.
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
Jeremiah 29:11 NKJV
I will never forget my mother praying every morning. She would pray over me, my brothers and our home. Though my mother died when I was 14, I can still remember her praying and calling on the name of Jesus.
As you pray, remember you get to partner with God in the upbringing of your children. As much as mothers love their children, there is still a limit on what we can do for them and how we can protect them. Prayer allows mothers to rest and put God to work.
“For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.”
Hebrews 4:10 NKJV
“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”
Psalms 91:1 NIV
2. Mothers are courageous.
It takes courage, bravery and strength to embark on the journey of motherhood. A good example of this is Moses’ mother Jochebed (Exodus 1:22). She was a woman of great faith, hope and confidence. She risked her own life to hide Moses for three months from Pharaoh which could have easily resulted in her death.
When he couldn’t be hidden any more, she took a chance and placed Moses in a basket by the river bank in hopes that he would be found and saved…and he was. This is courage! This is motherhood!
As Mother’s Day approaches, whether you’re a mother, bonus mom, adoptive mother, mentor, caregiver or sister, remember that you are brilliant, powerful, courageous, brave, resilient, impactful and a strong woman…chosen by God.
