Dream Thieves - Pt. 1

Let me ask you a simple question. Do you want to fulfill your dreams this year? If you’re like most people, you do. You know God has put some things in your heart to accomplish and you’re ready to achieve them. You want to release your gifts and explore your potential. But often times, days, weeks, months and sometimes years go by and you haven’t accomplished what you set out to do.

Let me explain what happened. You experienced a dream thief. Your goals have been blocked and your dreams seem to be on hold. You’re frustrated and you’re ready to give up. The truth is, it doesn’t have to be that way. If you’re seriously interested in achieving your goals and fulfilling your dreams, you’ve got to protect them from “Dream Thieves.”

What are Dream Thieves? They are elements in the world that hinder you from reaching your goals and achieving what you set out to accomplish. I’m going to expose those elements and show you what to do to protect your dreams and achieve what’s in your heart to do.

Dream Thief #1: The misuse of time.
The misuse of time is a major dream thief. It robs people of precious moments of achievement and seasons of advancement. This is why the apostle Paul emphatically told the believers at Ephesus, 15 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil” (Ephesians 5:15-16). I love how the Voice translation puts it. It’s a bit strong. You ready? Lol! Here we go:

15 So be careful how you live; be mindful of your steps. Don’t run around like idiots as the rest of the world does. Instead, walk as the wise! 16 Make the most of every living and breathing moment because these are evil times.

I told you it was strong. Lol! Notice that it’s your responsibility to make good use of your time. It’s not God’s responsibility, it’s not your spouses responsibility, it’s not even the responsibility of the company you work for. It’s your responsibility alone. So, I want to encourage you not to waste time. Don’t misuse this precious commodity. Use your time to make moves. Be strategic in what you do and what you won’t do. It will make your life so much better.

The Power of No
Listen, it’s ok to say no to an opportunity if it’s going to be a misuse of your time. Saying no is your major weapon against the misuse of time. Sometimes you have to say no to the newest Netflix series. 😜 Sometimes you have to say no to social media. Other times you have to say no to your family or friends that want you to do things that keep you from reaching your goals. In the end, you’ll go from point A to point B and you’ll be on your way to dream fulfillment.

A Sense of Urgency
I believe the key to making the most of every living and breathing moment is to develop a sense of urgency. I believe in our generation and our culture in particular, there’s a lackadaisical attitude and approach to our dreams. Too many people are laid back and half-hearted towards what they want in life. My brother, my sister there’s no room for that AT ALL!

We must take on a sense of urgency when it comes to the fulfillment of our God-given dreams. Of course distractions happen to all of us, but we cannot stay in a place of distraction. We must dust off the distraction and get back into the game of dream fulfillment. I love something Leonardo Da Vinci once said, “I have been impressed with the urgency of doing. Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Being willing is not enough; we must do.”

Why postpone your dreams any longer? Protect them from the dream thief of time misuse and achieve your God-given goals.
