Superior, Dominant, More Important
“Nevertheless the king’s word prevailed against Joab and against the captains of the army…” - 2 Samuel 24:4 NKJV
One of my favorite books to read in the Bible is the book of 1st & 2nd Samuel. The history, life lessons and character studies always keep me engaged, hungering to learn more. Every time I read the book, I gain more understanding. In reading the book of 2nd Samuel this past December, the above scripture stood out to me. The back story is King David wants to hold a census of the nation of Israel. The commander of his army, Joab, tries to advise David against it. However, it was David’s word that prevailed or overruled the word of Joab.
The word prevail is defined as “to prove superior in strength; become dominant; to appear or occur as the more important.” Saints of God, I’m writing to let you know that God’s word over your life is superior, dominant and more important. Continue with me as we look at three traits of the word of God and what it means to you.
1. God’s Word is Superior
The word of God that becomes active in your life causes you to be superior over circumstances. It is activated by reading your Bible, believing what it says and doing what it tells you to do. There’s a belief that the Bible does not work and is powerless. But do not believe the lie. It is God’s word that brought you to salvation. It is God’s word that cause you to be healed. It is God’s word that cause you to discover your destiny. Therefore, continue to engage it and watch your life flourish in new ways.
2. God’s Word is Dominant
Evil spirts have an agenda to enslave you with sin. Through sin, they can weaken you and bring you into strongholds. The only way to remain dominant is by obeying the word of God. Jesus was faced with one of the greatest temptations here in this verse, “8 Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.” 10 Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.” His obedience to God's word cause Him to be dominant over the temptation. He did not just talk about worship, He lived it and pursued it. Like Jesus, I see you resisting temptation, winning over circumstances and helping others become free.
3. God’s Word is More Important
There is nothing that has greater priority over your life. What God’s word says about you holds the most weight. The words of the doctors report is not greater than the word of healing. The word about the economy is not greater than the word concerning your finances. We are living in a time of many voices and they are increasing. Fighting for a chance to have your ear and sow thoughts into your mind. If you want to prevail, think on and memorize the word day and night. Let God’s word be the ruling thought of your day and you’ll begin to see and walk in the fullness of the blessing.
