Why Did We Get Married?

Why Did We Get Married

If you’re married or plan to be, I believe what I am about to share will empower you and set your marriage up for success. One of the main reasons we have failed marriages today is many do not understand God’s divine plan for matrimony. The good news is, He has shown us in His word His intentions for man and woman. Let’s explore some of them below.

Fruitful, Multiply & Dominion.
“Then God blessed them, and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion…’” (Genesis 1:28) One of the purposes for marriage is found in the above scripture. It is to be fruitful, multiply and have dominion. What this means is marriage is a unit that is meant to grow and conquer. That's why some say that the family is the strongest institution on earth. Therefore, the union between you and your spouse is significant and has a purpose. It’s no wonder Satan attacks marriages. If you’re married understand the value of your family and do whatever it takes to fight for your loved one.

Help each other fulfill the assignment.
“And the Lord God said, ‘It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him’” (Genesis 2:18). Another purpose for your marriage is to help your spouse fulfill the plan of God. The Lord knew man could not do it alone. The task is great and it takes a team to help accomplish what God wants to do in the earth. Be careful to never see your spouse as your competition, but as your ally. You are on the same team and meant to thrive together. When you win you, you always win together.

Pleasure.
While there is work to be done, marriage is not just about work. It's for pleasure. There is pleasure in becoming one flesh with your marital partner. There is pleasure in doing adventures together. There is pleasure in accomplishing your destiny together. I find it interesting that God added a deep level of gratification in having children. This shows us that the Lord was not just interested in getting what He wanted. He was mindful of adding sexual satisfaction while you accomplish His plans of multiplying mankind. My prayer is you will enjoy your marriage and not allow Satan to bring stress into your holy communion.

We have touched on a few things today about marriage. There is much to learn. Let’s start here by meditating on the scriptures given, pray them over our families and apply them into our lives.
